I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes

I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes

The Zing family lives in a misguided world of spell books, flying beach umbrellas, and state-of-the-art covert surveillance equipment. There's a slippery Zing, a graceful Zing, and a Zing who runs as fast as a bus. But most significant of all, there's the Zing Family Secret: so immense that it draws the family to the garden shed for meetings every Friday night.

I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes is an entirely new universe unto itself. The story passes among five female characters -- Fancy, Marbie, Cassie, Listen, and Cath -- all of whom are closely connected, as they -- and we -- come to discover. The two youngest heroines, Listen and Cassie, shoulder the biggest role in piecing
together the mystery that saves everyone in the end.

A grown-up fairytale and a suburban mystery all at once, I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes is about what happens when hope leads to sad and hilarious mistakes and when mistakes lead to hope once again. It's about what happens when you meet a Zing.

What others said about
I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes

"[Moriarty] has carefully and cleverly built an extraordinary book of great charm and originality… [the] narrative is studded with wry and lovely observations on life."
- Sunday Telegraph

"Part of Moriarty's gift is the ability to present the modern world with deceptively olde worlde grace. She can make confusion a comfortable and even elegant place to belong. Fairytales are about the rediscovery of lost innocence. That's what this book does."
- Sydney Morning Herald

"Jaclyn Moriarty's first novel for adults is wacky, sensitive and just plain fun . . . this is a feel-good comedy with a touch of magic. A great read for those who need a pick-me-up with a generous dash of humour."
- Australian Bookseller & Publisher

"A bewitching novel full of imaginative and unexpected twists and turns . . . Funny and completely charming."
- Vogue

"You'll love this light-hearted fairy tale about the blissful absurdness that is the Zing family. There's a myriad of sweetly sad tales and hilarious mistakes which, mostly, lead to hope."
- Cosmopolitan

”Moriarty is an elegant writer, and this witty romp through Australian suburbia is a pleasure to read. While the plot is certainly far-fetched, its coy insights into female human nature more than make up for the suspension of disbelief required.”
